What the state says the job is
This is highly responsible administrative and technical work in planning, organizing, and directing the Department of Health’s (DOH) Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) program to provide accessible, timely, reliable, and meaningful data to internal and external public health decision makers. The employee in this job oversees and coordinates the IT infrastructure transformation of DOH data to enhance data sharing and achieve innovative and advanced data analytics and visualization capabilities. Work involves developing, implementing, and enforcing department-wide data standards, policies, and procedures to ensure the validity, security, and appropriate use of health data within DOH, local health departments, and other external partners.
Examples of the work
• Supervises professional staff engaged in assessing the department’s current data practices and developing and implementing data analytic strategies and data governance policies and procedures to improve the quality, collection, exchange, and surveillance of health-related data. • Directs the planning, development, implementation, enhancement, and performance of the DOH IT transformation to a cloud-based data warehouse. • Examines data needs within and across public health programs and identifies areas for integration and improved data administration. • Discusses and obtains agreement from DOH program directors and executives on business rules for data collection and exchange.
Minimum qualifications
• Six years of professional experience in enterprise data management strategies and systems that includes four years of supervisory experience in enterprise data management or data integration, data governance, and data platforms.
