What the state says the job is
This is professional work of an administrative nature in directing vocational rehabilitation services for people with disabilities. The employee in this class serves as the Director of the Bureau of Program Operations in the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Duties involve formulating policies and procedures for implementing rehabilitation services in the statewide vocational rehabilitation district offices. Direct supervision is exercised over the district office managers and a central office support staff. Work is performed with extensive independence of action within the confines of state and federal laws and agency guidelines and is reviewed by the Vocational Rehabilitation Executive Director through conferences and reports.
Examples of the work
Directs district office vocational rehabilitation managers in the delivery of services to people with disabilities. Formulates bureau policies and procedures in order to achieve Office of Vocational Rehabilitation program goals and objectives. Supervises and directs the efforts of a large professional and non-professional staff in order to achieve bureau program goals and objectives. Makes recommendations regarding bureau organization and staffing requirements. Monitors bureau performance; identifies problem areas and directs the implementation of corrective action. Makes recommendations for, and exercises fiscal control over the bureau's annual budget.
Minimum qualifications
Seven years of responsible and diversified experience in the field of vocational rehabilitation, including three years in an administrative and supervisory capacity; and a bachelors' degree; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
