What the state says the job is
This is supervisory security work in protecting state property and maintaining the security of a state institution, park, or installation. An employee in this class supervises a small security force or an assigned shift of a large security force patrolling a state institution, park, airport, or an assigned area of the state capitol, to protect and guard property or persons from fire, theft, trespass or other hazards. Work normally involves supervising the regulation of the activities of patients, patrons or the general public, and may include performing limited police duties. Work involves the training of lower level security officers in facility rules and the practices and methods of security service.
Examples of the work
Supervises the provision of Commonwealth facility security being provided by a small force of ten or few officers on a multiple shift basis, or supervises a shift of security officers in a large multi-shift security force. Supervises the patrolling of an assigned area of the state capitol or a welfare, health, or educational institution, or a state park, airport, or installation; insures security from fires, prowlers, vandalism, or other unusual occurrences; provides rounds of buildings and reviews reports on unusual situations. Directs traffic and enforces vehicle regulations; supervises the provision of traffic control for special events occurring at the facility.
Minimum qualifications
One year as a Security Officer 1; or Any equivalent combination of experience or training which provides the knowledges, skills, and abilities required to provide supervisory security services.
