What the state says the job is
Provides advanced assistance to employers in recognizing and controlling potential health hazards in the workplace. Conducts complex voluntary consultative surveys of workplaces of all sizes to identify potential health hazard and evaluate workers' exposure to hazardous environments. Prepares intricate health reports of workplace surveys as well as detailed recommendations for the abatement of health hazards. Develops workplace health training programs for employees and employers; and performs other duties as required.
Examples of the work
Conducts detailed voluntary compliance occupational health surveys in places of employment of all sizes to determine the existence of toxic atmospheric contaminants, chemicals, or other materials, processes, or conditions which are known or suspected of being detrimental to health of the workers. Investigates the more difficult and complex cases. Evaluates workers' exposure to hazardous environments.
Minimum qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, environmental health, environmental health technology, engineering technology or a related field. The above degrees must include the completion of at least 12 semester hours of chemistry. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of professional experience in industrial hygiene or a related field. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in one of the above fields or related fields or completed occupational safety and health internship will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Graduate teaching or graduate research experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
