What the state says the job is

This is advanced professional work in the field of entomology in a field and laboratory setting. An employee in this job performs advanced entomology work in the areas of laboratory analysis, field survey, quarantine, pest management, and identification. Work includes the design and implementation of one or more of the following: life or seasonal history studies; qualitative, quantitative, or detection surveys for pests or potential pests; or pest management strategies or systems. Work may involve providing guidance to a group of technicians and lower-level professionals as they carry out studies, surveys, and inspections. Work is differentiated from the Entomologist 1 by having independent responsibility for developing studies and establishing survey protocols. Work is performed independently but is subject to periodic review through written and oral reports and direct observation.

Prepares and provides reports of survey or identification work to members of the scientific community, other state or federal agencies, and others. Represents the Department on interagency or multi-organization task forces, workgroups and meetings held by professional societies related to entomology issues.
