What the state says the job is

Positions in this class produce x-ray films for physicians' use in diagnosing patients' medical issues. Responsibilities include preparing patients for radiological examinations by explaining procedures; instructing patients on the removal of obstructive articles such as jewelry, through which x-rays cannot pass; and positioning patients so that appropriate parts of the body can be radiographed. Positions in this class also prevent unnecessary exposure to radiation by utilizing lead shielding as appropriate for each exam, by limiting the size of the x-ray beam and by positioning the beam at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of the body. In addition, positions are responsible for measuring the thickness of the section to be radiographed and appropriately determining settings to produce radiographs of the appropriate density, detail, and contrast.
