What the state says the job is
This is skilled work in the operation of specialized equipment and/or vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more. An employee in this class also performs manual work when not operating equipment. Work involves active participation in equipment maintenance duties and performance of related work of both an unskilled and skilled nature. Work is assigned with general instructions on a project basis, and employees proceed independently in the operation of the equipment without further instruction or assistance.
Examples of the work
Operates specialized equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, high-lifts or front end loaders with a bucket capacity of three cubic yards or more which are used in general construction, maintenance or grounds work, including snow removal and cindering operations, as needed. Operates vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more, such as tankers and tractor trailers which are used in general construction, maintenance or grounds work, including snow removal and cindering operations, as needed. Performs manual work on assigned projects when not operating equipment, including the loading and unloading of trucks.
Minimum qualifications
One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A; or Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more: or Any equivalent combination of experience or training.
