What the state says the job is
This is specialized cosmetology instructional work in a state correctional institution's vocational training program. An employee in this job plans, develops, and administers a cosmetology training program and maintains a cosmetology school in accordance with state regulations. Work includes the development of curriculum, question and answer sheets, and general course requirements in preparing inmate students for state board examinations for the Cosmetologist License. Work also involves instructing inmates in the practices, methods, and techniques of cosmetology by classroom instruction, demonstration, and on-the-job training. Work also includes providing cosmetology services to the inmate population. An employee in this job evaluates student progress through written examinations, observation, and conferences for adherence to standards, laws, and regulations.
Examples of the work
Instructs inmates in the practices, methods, and techniques of cosmetology by classroom instruction, demonstration, and on-the-job training, including procedures in haircutting and styling, dyeing and tinting, massaging, shampooing, sterilizing, and sanitation. Plans, develops, and implements a cosmetology vocational training program and provides cosmetology services to the inmate population. Prepares curriculum, lesson plans, and question and answer sheets on subjects, such as the history of cosmetology, care of equipment, personal and shop hygiene and health, anatomy, physiology, communicable diseases, shop management, ethics, use of tools and supplies, and the law.
